Order No. 79 of 1972 National Academy of Establishment Order
WHEREAS, We behold that Our people have from early times possessed an alphabet of their own and occupied a recognized place in ancient history; and
WHEREAS, We realize that in as much as the Amharic
that this language, while being faithful to its traditions and preserving its purity, should become a vehicle for the expre ssion of the knowledge, learning and thought engendered by modern civilization; and
WHEREAS, in order that the intellectual heritage hand ed down from our forefathers may afford a firm foundation for the coming generations, We deem it appropriate to estab lish a language Academy to provide guidance in the expression of the old and newer arts ;

NOW, THEREFORE, in accordance with Article 27 of Our Constitution, and on the advice of Our Council of Ministers, We hereby Order as follows:
This Order may be cited as the " National Academy of the Amharic Language Establishment Order, 1972 ".
There is hereby established an autonomous Public Autho rity having separate juridical personality to be known as the National Academy of the Amharic Language (hereinafter referred to as the " Academy ").
Purposes
The purposes of the Academy shall be:
(1) to foster the growth of the Amharic language, and (2) to encourage the development of Amharic literature.
