An Order to Provide for the Establishment of a National Commission for Education

ELECT OF GOD, EMPEROR OF ETHIOPIA WHEREAS, Ethiopia is a country with an ancient civiliza tion and a long - established educational system ;
WHEREAS, during the present era Ethiopia has decided to introduce modern science and technology in order to enrich its culture and raise the standard of living of its people ;

WHEREAS, education is a permanent asset which steadily improves as it passes on to successive generations, and is an ideal means of enriching social life and cementing the unity of the Nation, while at the same time ensuring economic and social de velopment; and
WHEREAS, We deem it necessary to establish a National Commission for Education to study Ethiopia's educational needs and submit its views thereupon ;
Short Title
NOW, THEREFORE, in accordance with Article 27 of Our Revised Constitution and on the advice of Our Council of Minis fers, We hereby order as follows:

This Order may be cited as the " National Commission for Education Order, 1969 ”.
Establishment
There is hereby established a National Commission for Education (hereinafter referred to as the " Commission ") to carry out the functions specified herein. The Commission shall be directly responsible to Our Prime Minister.
