Powers and Duties of the Auditor General Proclamation

PROCLAMATION No. 164 OF 1979
A PROCLAMATION TO PROVIDE FOR THE DEFINITION OF THE POWERS AND DUTIES OF THE AUDITOR GENERAL
WHEREAS, the existing legislation defining the func tions of the Auditor General does not provide for effectiveness and efficiency auditing and the auditing by the Auditor General of various development activities undertaken by Govern ment and mass organizations ;
WHEREAS, it is necessary to establish appropriate ac counting rules and auditing system with a view to ensure effici ent financial management and proper programme implementa tion by Government and mass organizations engaged in various development activities ;

WHEREAS, the achievement of said purposes calls for the redefinition of the powers and duties of the Auditor General ;

NOW, THEREFORE, in accordance with Article 5 (6) of the Redefinition of Powers and Responsibilities of the Pro visional Military Administrative Council and the Council of Ministers Proclamation No. 110/1977, it is hereby proclaimed as follows:
1. Short Title
This Proclamation may be cited as the " Powers and Duties b of the Auditor General Proclamation No. 164/1979 ".
2. Definitions
In this Proclamation unless the context shall otherwise re quire:
1. " department " means Ministries, commissions, autho rities, institutions, agencies or any other Government Office ;
