IMPERIAL DECLARATION

ELECT OF GOD, EMPEROR OF ETHIOPIA
WHEREAS, the insuring of respect and the observances of the human rights is essential to the fulfillment of the ulti mate destiny of humanity; and
WHEREAS, the search for the path to universal peace and the elimination of discrimination, of whatever nature and form it takes in the world today, is an urgent imperative of the Twentieth Century, to the fulfillment of which all men of good will should devote their unstinting and undivided attention and labour; and
WHEREAS, it is necessary that the hearts and minds of
all people of the world be focused upon the efforts undertaken
to affirm for all men the ultimate worth and dignity of the human person; and

WHEREAS, Ethiopia is dedicated to the principle of the equality of all men and the urgent necessity of safeguarding and assuring their inalienable human rights; and
WHEREAS, the General Assembly of the United Nations has designated the Year 1968 as the International Year for Human Rights;
NOW, THEREFORE, We hereby declare the Year 1968 as Ethiopian International Year for Human Rights and re affirm Our and Our Nation's dedication to the observance of the human rights during this and in all following years.
